Art Scott recommends Music Museum / NAMM

I took a tour today of the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA. This facility is also the home base of the NAMM organization; National Association of Music Merchants. I am so inspired by the displays, stories and music history I just experienced! Their address is 5790 Armada Dr., Carlsbad, CA 92008, phone 760.438.5996 Their website is www.MuseumofMakingMusic.org

Every family and young person needs to see this brilliant collection.

Mr. Scott has been teaching private Piano Lessons for over 45 years...and still going strong!

I highly recommend visiting this wonderful facility. Virtually every instrument is represented and you truly feel like your talking a walk back in time. I am posting a few pictures on this portal to entice you and your family to take the time to visit this Museum. There are loads of interactive kiosks which will allow kids to touch and feel real instruments and hear many different sounds.

Some notes of trivia I picked up;

"In the 1890's, pianos were sold to farmers from wagons hitched to a team of horses. In 1940, Isaac Bledsoe, owner of San Antonio Music Co., described the early days of driving a wagon, loaded with three pianos through the back roads of turn-of-the century Texas: On reaching a destination, the sales, with the help of some of the men, would unload one on his pianos, and set it up in the bedroom, kitchen, or other convenient spot. That night he would play the piano, and the family would gather around and sing spirituals or popular range songs by the flickering light of a candle or oil lamp. This usually helped the sale, and ...he would start home the next morning with a cow or a horse tied to the wagon as a down payment. Over the next, just after harvest time when farmers had cash, the salesman would return to collect the balance due." (Levey, pg. 23, NAMM 100th, A Century of Service to the Music Products Industry)

Here are a few pictures to entice you to visit! Photographs compliments of the NAMM Museum. (Photographs are allowed)
